Frequently Asked Questions

Gameplay

How do I start playing?

Simply browse the game catalog on our home page, pick any quiz that interests you, and tap Play. No account or sign-up is needed. You can start playing immediately and your progress will be tracked for that session. Each quiz has a brief intro page showing the game rules before you begin.

What is the heart system?

You start each game with 3 hearts. After the warm-up phase, every wrong answer costs you one heart. When all hearts are lost, the game ends. However, there is a chance to recover: when you lose your last heart, you may receive a Heart Challenge — a bonus question that, if answered correctly, restores one heart and lets you keep playing.

What is a Heart Challenge?

When you lose your last heart, there is a chance that a Heart Challenge will appear. This is a special bonus question from our Korean Trivia collection. If you answer it correctly, you recover one heart and can continue playing. If you get it wrong, the game ends as usual. Heart Challenges add an exciting second-chance element that can turn a game around at the last moment.

Is there a time limit for each question?

Most questions have a 15-second time limit, shown as a countdown bar at the top of the screen. Some special questions may have different time limits or no limit at all. Answering quickly earns you speed bonus points, so faster responses lead to higher scores.

What are warm-up questions?

The first 3 questions of each game are warm-up questions. During warm-up, wrong answers do not cost you any hearts. This gives you a chance to get familiar with the game format and question style before the real challenge begins.

How many questions are in each game?

Each game has a pool of questions that varies in size. You will keep playing until either you run out of hearts or you have answered all available questions in the pool. There is no fixed number of questions per session — the goal is to answer as many as you can.

Scoring & Tiers

How is my score calculated?

Your score is based on three factors: a base score of 10 points per correct answer, a streak multiplier that increases with consecutive correct answers, and a speed bonus for answering quickly. The faster you answer and the longer your streak, the higher your score. Wrong answers and timeouts reset your streak but still count toward your total questions answered.

What are the tier rankings?

After each game, you receive a tier ranking based on your Score Efficiency — a percentage that compares your actual score to the theoretical maximum. The tiers are: Diamond (75%+), Gold (55%+), Silver (35%+), Bronze (18%+), and Iron (below 18%). Score Efficiency considers accuracy, speed, and streak performance together. Some games may have custom tier thresholds.

How does the leaderboard work?

Each game has its own leaderboard where players are ranked by score. You can set a 3-letter nickname after completing a game to appear on the leaderboard. Leaderboards can be filtered by All Time or Last 7 Days. The Daily Challenge has a separate leaderboard ranked by the number of correct answers.

What is the streak bonus?

The streak bonus rewards consecutive correct answers. Each correct answer in a row increases your multiplier, so answering 5 questions correctly in a row earns significantly more points than answering 5 scattered correct answers. A wrong answer or timeout resets your streak back to the base multiplier.

Daily Challenge

What is the Daily Challenge?

The Daily Challenge is a special quiz available every day that mixes questions from all game categories on HOW KOREAN. It features an endless stream of questions — you keep playing until you run out of hearts. There is no warm-up phase in the Daily Challenge, so every answer counts from the start.

Can I play the Daily Challenge more than once?

No, the Daily Challenge can only be played once per day per device. This ensures fair competition on the daily leaderboard. A new challenge becomes available at midnight UTC each day. You can still play unlimited rounds of any regular game.

Which games are included in the Daily Challenge?

The Daily Challenge pulls questions from every active game on the platform, including K-Pop quizzes, cultural trivia, Konglish, and more. The mix changes daily, so each day brings a unique combination of question types and categories.

What languages are supported?

HOW KOREAN is available in seven languages: English, Korean, Japanese, Spanish, German, French, and Brazilian Portuguese. Do I need to create an account?

No, HOW KOREAN does not require any account or registration. You can start playing immediately. Your game sessions are tracked temporarily, and you can set a nickname for the leaderboard after completing a game. We keep things simple so you can focus on having fun.

How do I set my nickname on the leaderboard?

After completing a game, you will see an option to enter a 3-letter nickname on the result screen. Your nickname must be exactly 3 uppercase letters, like ABC or KPO. Some combinations are blocked to prevent inappropriate names. Once set, your nickname will appear on the leaderboard next to your score. You can set a different nickname for each game session.
